The Hancock-Cherrywood Vision is an initiative to catalyze a compelling long-term vision for the over 60 acres of private land between the Delwood Shopping Center and Hancock Center that includes I-35, the Red Line railway, and the Red Line Parkway that would benefit the surrounding local community of homeowners, renters, and small businesses and also become a vibrant, diverse and inclusive destination within the urban core that would benefit all of Austin.

There are two opportunities to participate (RSVP encouraged, walk-ups welcome):

  • Community Open House: Wed, March 26, 6:00p to 8:00p at Austin Energy Headquarters (4815 Mueller Blvd)
  • Community Presentation: Fri, March 28, 6:00p to 8:00p at Austin Energy Headquarters (4815 Mueller Blvd)

These community meetings are part of a multi-day engagement with a specially assembled team from Communities by Design sponsored by the national American Institute of Architect's Foundation, following the initiative supported by City Council resolution in May 2024.

The Hancock-Cherrywood Vision Steering Committee is composed of residents from both adjacent neighborhoods as well as community stakeholders representing community-led planning to consider quality public space, stability, planned growth, equity, transit, and urban design.  The Steering Committee believes an intentional, coordinated, community-led, long-term urban design vision will lead to redevelopment that is integrated with existing neighborhoods, provides green spaces and affordable housing more than market alone, increases connectivity and higher social and economic returns for the community, city and landowners, and a stronger tax base for every taxing jurisdiction.

This process also will help provide key context and foundation for funding the proposed caps over I-35, including caps aligned with the Red Line Parkway, and to help galvanize support for a new Red Line MetroRail transit station for greater mobility and multimodal access.
