The new year is here, and with each new year, we are making progress for the Red Line Parkway. As one of Austin's newest trail nonprofits (at almost 9 years old), we depend that much more on your ongoing support as an individual donor.
Our donors support our work for one or more of many reasons!
- Supporting our region, our city, our neighborhoods: We are a local nonprofit supporting where we live! Nearly all of our individual support is local.
- Local climate action: We are one of only a handful of nonprofits in the world taking direct action on our region's largest source of greenhouse gases: local transportation.
- Trails access: Our region has few off-street paved biking trails compared to most peers. Aside from a few notable exceptions, most residents in our region don't have direct access to running trails. We're changing that, and that's a key reason for many of our donors.
- Parks, open space, and public plazas: We're creating more green space, more public space, more space to stretch out! The Boggy Creek Greenbelt shows what's possible, and many people support our work to extend the greenbelt.
- Safety and security: Some of our donors can't walk, run, or bike, because there is nowhere they can go on a regular basis in their neighborhood that feels safe and secure.
- Supporting affordability, preventing homelessness: Car dependency is one of the top factors leading to homelessness. Suddenly encountering a $2,000 car repair bill or worse—a car crash—can result in an inability to pay rent. We're creating more opportunity to survive and thrive without having to own a car.
- Transit success: Many know that improving walk and bike access to CapMetro Rail stations, will also... improve transit ridership!
- Nonprofits make the dream work: A major factor for many, if not all, of our donors, is that they know a community can only be strong if its nonprofit community groups are strong too. They know that there is no shortcut to these community successes—they donate.
- Economic development and sustainability: Many of our donors know that we can't take prosperity for granted. Our region has historically been attractive to investment because we collectively ensure a good quality of life. Just as the Atlanta Beltline attracts employers who want to attract employees, so too will the Red Line Parkway attract investment that would otherwise go to another region, if anywhere at all.
- Leveraging more resources: Some of our supporters know how critical individual donations are to leveraging further financial support for the Red Line Parkway. In 2025, each $1 donated by an individual unlocked over $4 in foundation grants and corporate gifts, and over $1,000 in public funding for the Red Line Parkway. That's a more than 100,000% match!
- Fun and joy: Many of our individual donors use the Red Line Parkway or other trails, and want to see the Red Line Parkway extended and improved
