Construction Underway on MoKan Trail
Construction is currently underway on a quarter mile section of the MoKan Trail. Current work includes extending the existing trail behind the Alta Trailhead Apartments to the intersection of Springdale Road and Bolm Road, and a grade separated crossing of Airport Boulevard. This project is a part of the larger MoKan Trail, a 1.5 mile trail that begins at Shady Lane and the Southern Walnut Creek Trail and will extend to the bikeway along Pedernales Street. This trail will significantly improve access between the Red Line Parkway at Boggy Creek and the Southern Walnut Creek Trail. Sign up for project updates.
Engaging the Community in Parkway Planning
CapMetro, with the City of Austin, will kick off the planning process to determine the end-to-end route for the Parkway in late 2022/early 2023. The Red Line Parkway Initiative will play a critical role in community engagement, supported in part by funds from Travis County. In preparation, we will reach out to community members in the coming months. We recently connected with the Brentwood Neighborhood Association and an Urban Land Institute Austin subcommittee. New Park and Nature Play Space near MLK Station
The recently opened MLK Station Neighborhood Park provides an opportunity for shade, rest, and play along the Red Line Parkway. It is one of Austin’s pioneering nature play spaces, featuring stump jumps, climbing logs, loose parts, and seating areas. These parks provide seating, playgrounds and other amenities in areas unsuitable for traditional park features because of floodplain restrictions. Located just off East 16th Street, the park can be accessed by crossing the stream across the trail from St. David’s Community Garden. Check it out next time you use the Red Line Parkway!
