Donor Exclusive: Big Loop Ride, this Saturday, April 11th, 8:30am
Have you considered supporting the completion of the Red Line Parkway by becoming a supporter at the $125/year Friends level or above? Become a Friends level donor and join us for a fun and informative bike ride along the 30-mile Big Loop, this Saturday, April 11th.
Donate now, and we'll send you an exclusive registration link.
Red Line Parkway Initiative, Shoal Creek Conservancy, and Safe Streets Austin are partnering together to give our donors an exclusive ride along Austin's premier active transportation corridors and see the exciting progress along this critical set of urban trails. The Big Loop includes two parts of the Red Line Parkway: Downtown to East Austin and North Burnet. We will be joined by expert City of Austin staff to chat about recently completed trail segments, upcoming projects, and the future of Austin trails.
Call for Red Line Parkway Initiative Board Members
We are expanding our Board of Directors and inviting members of our community to express interest in helping guide the next phase of the Parkway’s growth. Board members help guide organizational strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure RLPI has the resources needed to move from vision to reality.
Visit our website to learn more. We are accepting board interest submissions through Sunday, April 19th.
We are also hosting one more informational happy hour next Wednesday, April 15th to provide a face-to-face opportunity to learn more about board service.
Key Actions and Input Opportunities
A key function of our periodic newsletter and of our organization itself, is to connect the broader public with opportunities to shape the city, region, and state that we live in. We share information on open houses, surveys, and other engagement opportunities that directly impact the Red Line Parkway and on the greater system that shapes Parkway design, funding, and access.
Huntland Drive and Highland Mall Boulevard
Share your support for safety and mobility improvements proposed for Huntland Drive and Highland Mall Boulevard. These are critical tributary connections between the Red Line Parkway and destinations/origins in the Highland Mall area. Learn more in this recent city newsletter and the project website. Take the project survey by Friday, April 17th.
East Austin - Cesar Chavez + Red Bluff
Share your support for safety and mobility improvements proposed for East Cesar Chavez St. and Red Bluff Rd. These extend the Colorado River Trail to the east from the newly opened Wishbone Bridge, and will improve important bike/walk/transit access between the Red Line Parkway and the Montopolis neighborhood. Learn more in this recent city newsletter and the project website. Take the project survey by Monday, April 27th.
Round Rock Trails Master Plan Survey
The City of Round Rock is updating its Citywide Trails Master Plan to guide the future of its trail system. We encourage you to learn more and take their survey.
Ask them to include a trail link along the UP railroad from central Round Rock to the Red Line Parkway. Background: This key trail connection between Round Rock, the Red Line Parkway, and CapMetro Rail Howard Station is a part of their current trails plan, but has been dropped in this new draft. Encourage them to put it back in.
Parmer Lane / FM 734 Corridor Study Open House
The Parmer Lane Corridor Study is undergoing its third and final public comment period. Parmer Lane is a critical part of completing an initial, end-to-end, safe and comfortable route for the Red Line Parkway between Howard and Lakeline Stations, and will continue on as a key connector even as the primary backbone trail of the Red Line Parkway eventually gets completed.
We encourage you to voice your interest for bike and walk paths on both sides of the highway. You are welcome to include any of our 2024 recommendations when you provide your input in-person or online. Learn more and take the survey by Monday, April 27th.
Keep Austin Beautiful Day, Saturday, April 18th

More Parkway and Vicinity Updates
- Burrell Drive: Thanks to community support last year, the City of Austin continues on mobility improvements to this key part of the current Red Line Parkway route in the Wooten Neighborhood. The city has just completed the speed cushions and concrete installation and will now begin installation of the in-street trail. Read more in this recent city update email.
- US Congress Funding Requests include Red Line Parkway: A key section of the Red Line Parkway and connecting projects are among the official City of Austin submissions for Fiscal Year 26-27 Congressional Community Project Funding Requests, formerly known as "earmarks." Thanks to Austin City Council Member Krista Laine for her leadership in identifying important mobility projects for northwest Austin, to Austin Urban Trails staff for further research and support, and to Rep. Lloyd Doggett for his initial support, the "Lakeline Trail" is included as a $5MM funding request to complete the Red Line Parkway from Lakeline Station to Parmer Lane, connecting residents along the way. Also included in the requests are the East Avenue Trail along I-35 (forming a loop with Red Line Parkway), which has initial support from Rep. Greg Casar, and the Ryan Drive development (at Crestview Station), also among requests to Rep. Doggett. Read more about City of Austin requests for federal earmarks.
