With your support in 2021, we made progress in several areas:

• We established relationships with all Red Line corridor government agencies and convened multi-agency technical advisory group meetings.
• We succeeded in ensuring not just car-free crossings for the Red Line Parkway at both I-35 crossings, but that these crossings will be paid for as part of the highway project.
• We helped Cedar Park identify a portion of the Red Line Parkway as a proposed trail project in their upcoming 2022 bond election.
• We worked with multiple developers, including in Leander, Lakeline, North Loop, and East Cesar Chavez, to implement the Red Line Parkway through their developments.
• We published an online interactive map of the entire trail corridor plus connecting trails.
• We laid a lot of groundwork for 2022!

What does 2022 hold for the Red Line Parkway Initiative?

The biggest news is that we anticipate development of the Red Line Parkway Plan, including an end-to-end route and community engagement, will begin in the coming months. We are currently working closely with our partners at Capital Metro, City of Austin, and Travis County on the final preparations. Our work last year helped us get to where we are today.

We’ll also be hosting curated rides and walks along the Parkway beginning this spring, and we want to see you there! Also stay tuned for more ways that you can be involved and support the Red Line Parkway.

Updates on MetroRail and Stations

• Broadmoor Station Groundbreaking: Construction has begun on the new Red Line Broadmoor Station. The new station will serve the adjacent Broadmoor redevelopment, The Domain, and the greater North Burnet area. The Red Line Parkway will travel to and through the station, connecting the Northern Walnut Creek Trail and the Q2 Stadium and McKalla Station to the south. • McKalla Station Update: We worked with the Austin Pedestrian Advisory Council (PAC) and the Bicycle Advisory Council (BAC) to advance recommendations for the McKalla Station to include the Red Line Parkway and bicycle access. We understand that the design continues to move in a good direction, and that Capital Metro will be bringing a revised proposal to the PAC and BAC at their February meetings.

• Leander ballot item: Leander City Council voted on January 25th to have Leander voters decide at the May 7th election whether or not to remain in the Capital Metro service area. Though this could have an impact on the Red Line corridor, it would not fundamentally change our trajectory for planning and implementing the trail in Leander. For example, the future Red Line Parkway and trail also travels through Cedar Park, which is not currently in the Capital Metro service area. • Crestview Station - Community Design Workshop: The Project Connect team is hosting an informational and interactive discussion on the Crestview Station, which includes the important and complex intersection of the Orange & Blue Lines and the Red Line, plus Lamar Blvd. and Airport Blvd. Register for the Tuesday March 1st 5:30pm workshop.

We had a great ride earlier this month with Cedar Park Council Member Jim Penniman-Morin, who is a huge supporter of trails! We rode the Brushy Creek Regional Trail and explored a possible new Red Line Parkway connection from the 183A Shared-Use Path to the future Bell District development.
