March 2026 Newsletter - Extra Edition

19 March, 2026

We have a few extra items this month that couldn't wait for April....

Call for Red Line Parkway Initiative Board Members

We are expanding our Board of Directors and inviting members of our community to express interest in helping guide the next phase of the Parkway’s growth. Board members help guide organizational strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure RLPI has the resources needed to move from vision to reality.

Visit our website to learn more. We are accepting board interest submissions through Sunday, April 19th.

Parmer Lane / FM 734 Corridor Study Open House

The Parmer Lane Corridor Study is undergoing its third and final public comment period beginning with an in-person open house next Wednesday, March 25th at the Rattan Creek Community Center. Online input opportunities will also begin that day.

Parmer Lane is a critical part of completing an initial, end-to-end, safe and comfortable route for the Red Line Parkway between Howard and Lakeline Stations. In addition, it will continue on as a key connector even as the primary backbone trail of the Red Line Parkway eventually gets completed.

We encourage you to voice your interest for bike and walk paths on both sides of the highway. You are welcome to include any of our 2024 recommendations when you provide your input in-person or online. The project sponsors, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), will use public input to help shape future project proposals for the corridor.

Living Streets Program: Apply

The City of Austin Living Streets Program is a key part of creating safe and welcoming connections right in front of your home and across our city. They accept applications for new proposals quarterly, including through Monday, April 6th. Learn more and apply here.

From the City of Austin: "This program aims to create safer, more enjoyable streets for everyone. By allowing residents to transform their streets into places where communities can gather, walk, bike and connect, the program encourages stronger neighborhood connections and improved quality of life."

Healthy Streets, one of the Living Streets options, can create essential first and last block connections to other bike and walk routes such as the Red Line Parkway. It's a great opportunity for neighbors to help create the city they live in!

Recap of It's My Park Day

A big thanks to the dozens of volunteers, pictured above, who came out earlier this month for our tree-care event as part of Austin Parks Foundation's citywide It's My Park Day! We added mulch to the base of a grove of trees along the Boggy Creek Greenbelt Trail next to the Downs and Mabson Fields. And though we appreciate every volunteer who came out, we are especially appreciative of the hard-core several who also opted in to stay even when the rain storm finally came! 🌧️
